Fair Grounds Recap – Jan 15th
A wet evening to kick off the first Starlight Racing program. Sloppy main track and off the turf. Early-pressing types dominated, and Ruah under Anna Roberts was the only late runner to get the job done.
Jamie Theriot rode two winners. Robby Albarado also booted home a pair, and he had a hat trick in his hands only to be disqualified in the finale aboard Mr R P. He was my jockey to watch, and my trainer of the day Ralph Nicks saddled a winner as well.
My best bet Country Flavor was razor sharp in the optional claiming feature. The gelded son of Empire Maker could be ready to step up and face local stakes foes next time.

On the analysis front, I got home Socket (.20) and Country Flavor (.80). I also tabbed the 3rd race trifecta and late double.
Fair Grounds Preview – Jan 16th
A 10-race program will be run on Saturday at the Fair Grounds. Unfortunately, more rain is in the forecast with a high temperature of 57. Pick six carryover of ,172.
Two stakes races are on tap, beginning with the John E. Jackson Memorial (6th race) for Louisiana bred 4yo’s and up traveling five and one-half furlongs on the main track. 9-5 favorite Cush makes his first start in over seven months, and the classy returnee is a 5-time local winner.
In the 8th race, state bred fillies and mares run the same distance in the Happy Ticket. Cajun Conference is the one to catch from the rail, and Steve Asmussen returnee Sax Appeal will try to do just that.
